The United Arab Emirates is located in the Middle East and Southwest Asia, bordering the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf between Oman and Saudi Arabia. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven states. The seven emirates are: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. Foreign investors can carry out any activities in the UAE only after being registered and licensed by the relevant authorities in the UAE. In general, a foreign investor can establish a suitable business presence in either the UAE mainland (also commonly known as ‘onshore’) or a business presence ‘offshore’.
