About Mongla

Mongla is an upazila belonging to Bagerhat district which is famous for the second largest seaport in Bangladesh. The journey of Mongla Port started on December 1, 1950. The distance from Khulna to Mongla Port is 48 km. The port is about 100 km north of the Bay of Bengal. Mongla port is connected with other inland river ports and Khulna railway terminal. Mongla Port is open 24 hours for discharge of cargo, with a maximum vessel length of 225 meters. Every year, about 400 ships anchor at Mongla Port, importing and exporting about 3 million metric tons of goods. The port has eleven jetties, seven sheds and eight warehouses for loading and unloading of goods. There are also twelve floating anchorages deep in the river.

Mongla is a residential area. Mongla Port Authority has two residential colonies. One is Madhavi Port Colony and the other is Malty Port Colony. House rent in and around Mongla area is within the reach of everyone. Mongla, being one of the industrial areas of the country, results in the demand for housing being high. Furthermore, the demand for commercial properties is huge. It can be said that Mongla has several industrial establishments including the Mongla Cement Factory, Mongla EPZ, Special Economic Zone, Dubai Bangladesh Cement Limited, and the Bashundhara Industrial Complex.

Transportation

The distance from Dhaka to Mongla is 225 km. The Dhaka-Khulna highway is the best way to travel from Dhaka to Mongla by road. After the inauguration of Padma Bridge, the effectiveness of this road has increased by reducing its traffic. As a result of the Padma Bridge, a direct connection has been established from Dhaka to Mongla. The distance from Mongla to Khulna is only 48 km. By road from Khulna via Katakhali, Mongla can be easily traveled. As such, the internal transportation system of Mongla is very good.

Educational institutions

Among the educational institutions in Mongla upazila, there are 4 colleges, 20 secondary schools, 1 junior school, 1 government primary school, 29 private primary schools, and 18 madrasas. Among these institutions, there are the Mongla Bandar Secondary, BA School and College, and the Digraj School and College. The BN School & College is a naval institute with excellent quality of education.

Medical facilities

Mongla Port Government Hospital is the trusted place of medical care for the people of Mongla. There are also clinics and diagnostic centers here. Pharmacy shops can also be found nearby.

Sightseeing and entertainment

Karamjal Tourist Center is the best place for recreation in Mongla. This attractive tourist center is situated on the banks of the Pashur River and covers an area of ​​30.0 hectares. Out of all the tourist spots in the Sundarbans, Karamjal tourist center attracts the largest number of tourists every year.

Mosques and religious institutions

There are no shortage of mosques, as is the case all over Bangladesh. Among the mosques, Monglabandar Jame Masjid, Market Mosque, and the Pukurpar Jame Masjid are the most popular. For Hindus, there is Digraj Temple.

Neighborhood

Rampal Upazila is to the North of Mongla Upazila, Dakop Upazila to the West, Moralganj to the East Upazila, and to the south lies the Sundarbans and the Bay of Bengal. There are two rivers in Mongla upazila, Pasur and Mongla Nadi. The road and water transportation in Mongla is very good.

Food and restaurants

Among the local and foreign food restaurants in Mangala are the Pasur Hotel, TFC, MSC etc. Hotel Dhansindi is also very popular here.

The Singapore Market is the best destination for shopping in Mongla. All kinds of local and foreign products are here. Tourists from outside also come here to shop as much as possible. Lastly, the Digraj Kacha Bazaar is there to meet the daily needs.
